Welcome to my "P" post about the goddess Pele!
Pele is from the Hawaiian pantheon. She is known as the goddess of fire, volcanoes, wind, and lightning. At least three different legends discuss the origin of Pele, but the most popular one appears to be that she comes from a dormant volcano.
Hawaiians worshipped Pele through the early 1800s, even after the arrival of Christian missionaries.
As a fire goddess, Pele rules creativity, passion, drive, and love. Today, however, many Pagans worship her also as a warrior goddess as well.
One of the more interesting parts of Pele is that she often appears in pop culture references. Various bands and albums have been named for her, and one of my favorite video games--the "Borderlands" series--also has a character that has many similarities to "the earth-eating goddess".

Oh, you should have included that local Hawaiian legend holds that you don't take volcanic rock from a volcano without leaving a present for Pele in return... it's bad mojo! :-)
